Our Policy is set by our members at our bi-annaul National Congress.

Federal Europe

JEF Irelands belives in the creation of a Federal Europe, based on the principles of subsidiarity, justice, democracy and equality. We believe this Federal Europe should be created through the democratic consent of the peoples of Europe. This Federal Structure should be democratically elected and accountable, and should respect individual member states authonomy

Democracy In Europe

JEF Ireland believes that a Federal Europe should be democratic, and based off the model of a constitutional parliamentary democracy and the principle of the seperation of powers.

This means it should have a democratically elected European Parliament with the power to initiate, amend and reject legislation.

It should have an executive appointed and accountable to this parliament.

The parliament should have the power to dismiss individual members or the whole executive.

They’re should also be a bi-cameral legislature, with the democratically elected parliament as the more powerful lower house, and a council of representitives from each member state as the less powerful, but still important upper house.

European Constitution

JEF Ireland believes that any future Federal Union should have a written constitution enscribing not only government and judicial power but also guranteeing certain human and socio-economic rights which would be enforeable though both the European and National courts. This European Constitution should be drafted by the citizens of Europe through citizens assemblys in each member state.

Immigration and Asylum

JEF Ireland condemns the current Irish system of direct provision. JEF Ireland believed that immigration and a multi-cultural society is an inherently good thing for Ireland and Europe, and calls for Ireland the EU to take a more humanitarian approach to immigration. Anyone who is a genuine refugee should be given a home in Europe.
